However, northern Scotland will be the “best place for warm sunshine”, despite usually getting a raw deal when it comes to UK weather. Met Office meteorologist Aidan McGivern said: “Thursday is a day of heavy showers, hail and thunder mixed in with some of the liveliest downpours. But there will also be some sunshine - a window of fine weather moving north across the UK for northern England first thing and then into Northern Ireland, southern and central Scotland during the morning.”
However, cloud will soon set in and some heavy rainfall will move up into northern England, into southern Scotland and Northern Ireland during the afternoon.
To the south of the heavy rain, there will be sunshine breaking out across England and Wales.
However, northern Scotland will have the clearest skies.
Mr McGivern said: “This is where the window of fine weather ends up from the middle of the afternoon - into northern Scotland.
