The European Union earlier this month agreed to provide Theresa May with an extra six months to convince MPs to support her Brexit withdrawal agreement. To secure the delay the Prime Minister agreed to have Britain take part in the European parliamentary elections scheduled to take place in May, despite Nigel Farage pledging to create chaos in Brussels throughout the extension with potential MEPs from his Brexit Party. Political analyst John McTernan suggested the prospect of Mr Farage returning to the European Parliament alongside fellow populist politicians from across the continent had become the bloc's "greatest nightmare".

Mr McTernan told RT UK: "It’s their greatest nightmare.

"These elections will send Farage and a whole phalanx of MEPs into Europe that support him."

Latest polls conducted by YouGov have shown the newly-formed Brexit Party has leapfrogged into first place on 27 percent of the vote.

The survey, which polled 1,855 British voters between April 15 16, has forecasted Nigel Farage's new party will storm to victory by securing the lion's share of the vote.
