Jill Dando’s killer has never been found after her shock murder in 1999 when she was shot dead outside her home in Fulham.
Barry George was convicted of the murder of the BBC journalist in 2001 before he was released seven years later following an acquittal of the charges put against him in a retrial of the case.
In a new ITV documentary on the 20th anniversary of Dando’s murder, George revealed the impact the conviction has had on him and the circumstances surrounding his arrest.
The hour-long insight into the investigation gives viewers an in-depth look into the original case and some of the new evidence which has come to light following George’s acquittal.
I knew I hadn’t done it

Speaking of his reaction to the murder and the initial belief he was the killer, George said: “There are probably a select few people who may think, ‘Okay, he’s been through the case. He’s got off on a technicality, probably, or whatever.’
“But my conscience was clear - I knew I hadn’t done it.”
Although the case has been reopened since George’s release 11 years ago, no one has ever been arrested for the murder.
Speaking of the the ruling made against him in the initial trial, George said: “I find it sad that they done what they’ve done to me and that they didn’t have no sound evidence.
“The truth of the real killer is somewhere out there, you know.
“Former commander of the police John O’Connor, he even turns turns round and makes a statement, ‘Excellent leads of the Jill Dando case were never followed up. The Met, though, just shut their eyes to everything else once they had nicked poor Barry George.’”
