A heated row erupted between the BBC journalist and the MP for Brent North who was appearing as part of a local election 2019 special. The confusion occurred over the declaring of Labour losing overall control of Hartlepool Council in what was a significant blow to Jeremy Corbyn’s party. Mr Gardiner maintained the BBC had got their figures wrong when they said Labour had lost overall control of the council.
