Labour’s shadow Foreign Secretary explained to the audience the “mess” she believes the UK is in. She highlighted Labour’s policy fighting for a second referendum. However, her comment questioning if Leave voters meant their vote angered one audience member.

Ms Thornberry said: “I think we have got ourselves into such a mess that we are really going to find it difficult to go any further without going back to the British people and saying to them this is the best thing that we can agree, it’s not great.

“It is Labour policy to go back people if there is a deal with this particular government.

“if this government can get something through parliament I think it will be so controversial.

“In the end we will need to go back to the people and say, ‘did you vote for this? cause if you did, fine. But if you didn’t we should think again about remaining.
