Anne Hegerty, 60, spoke out about her relationship with her mum when she appeared on Channel 5’s Jeremy Vine show last week. The Chase star, who is known for her expert general knowledge skills, revealed she was always looking for more “encouragement” from her mother during her time at school. She explained: “The problem is, my mother herself had very pushy parents and she tried her best to be the opposite with me. “And as a result, I was just always wanting more encouragement to do things and didn’t get it.”

The host of the show, Jeremy, 53, seemed surprised by Anne’s comment as he asked: “So she wasn’t pushy enough with you?”

Anne then implied that her mum didn’t appear to care much about her school reports, adding: “No, I remember once saying to her in primary school that I couldn’t understand why school reports were addressed to the parents when it was only the children that were interested.

“It took me a long time to realise quite a lot of parents were interested.”

The Governess went on to recall a time when she enjoyed studying the works of Shakespeare in her bedroom at a young age, which also left her mother unimpressed.
