Vicky McClure, 35, and Jonny Owen, 47, announced their engagement at the end of 2017 in an adorable Instagram upload which saw her flashing her new diamond ring. Last month, the Line of Duty favourite, who is currently playing Kate Flemming in series five of the hit BBC crime drama, spilled all about how she and the Shameless star first got together on Elizabeth Day’s podcast, How To Fail. “When we first spoke, it was on the phone,” she said. “I came off the phone and I just knew. I absolute knew.”
Vicky went on to reveal she searched for Johnny on Google after they spoke and learned he was married.
However, she said when they met he was “in the middle of a divorce”.
“It was tricky,” she explained. “I thought, ‘I am scared now, I genuinely feel something I’ve never felt before. He’s a proper man. He’s a grown-up.’”
Vicky and Johnny were preparing to appear in Svengali together, and the Line of Duty star recalled how their conversations about romance convinced her about her feelings for him.
“We got to talking about love,” she said. “And just the way he was describing it, I was like, ‘Oh my God. He’s the man for me.’”
She told the podcast host how the couple had moved in together a week after they first met.
