The former vice president confused the two British leaders despite Mrs Thatcher dying in 2013 after leaving office two decades before. Mr Biden made the error during a speech in Columbia on Saturday. He previously served under former US President Barack Obama in 2009 to 2017.
During the speech, Mr Biden said: “Margaret Thatcher – um, excuse me, Margaret Thatcher, Freudian slip.
“But I knew her too. The Prime Minister of Great Britain Theresa May.”
Mr Biden went on to claim Mrs May had called him to voice her concerns about US President Donald Trump.
He said Mrs May had asked him: “We still have a special relationship between the United States and England?
