Bank Holiday travel chaos after camper van EXPLODES at petrol station #sussex ...

The huge blaze is now under control but the area surrounding the Shell petrol station, in Arundel Road, in Fontwell is closed, Sussex Road Police have confirmed. The A27 is open but there is extensive traffic congestion. A camper van reportedly caught fire at around 9.30am this morning, according to local media.

Chichester Police says officers are still at the scene, but there are no injuries. 

People in nearby houses and businesses have also been evacuated while police search for a potential gas leak.

A spokesperson for Sussex Police said to the Shoreham Herald: “We have cordoned some of the area off and have evacuated nearby houses and businesses while we locate a gas leak.”

Three fire engines also attended the scene after receiving multiple calls from concerned onlookers this morning.
