Why 3.3million Britons might 'not be protected' when travelling abroad #Travel

Holidays are often filled with happiness and, fortunately, painful accidents and injuries are few and far between. When they do occur, Britons usually call on their travel insurance to help pay the often-costly treatment fees. Yet despite taking out cover prior to their trip overseas, UK travel insurance firm Staysure estimates 3.3 million people are not covered at all. It highlights this shock danger as particularly affecting those Britons aged 50 and over.

Staysure’s Don’t Bank On It report, released this week, shone the light on the finer detail of travel insurance policies.

It claims many “serious pitfalls” and lack of knowledge are “leaving many over 50s exposed and without cover.”

This could then rule in costly medical fees for travellers who wrongly believe they are covered by their particular policy.

It revealed 75 per cent of travellers surveyed plumped for travel insurance provided by their banks, purely because the policy was complementary.

Meanwhile 20 per cent said they would not declare past injuries or pre-existing medical conditions yet, Staysure highlighted, the most dangerous oversight was down to travellers not reading the policy wording properly.
