Prince Andrew, the Duke of York, and his former girlfriend Kathleen “Koo” Stark secretly flew to the Caribbean Island of Mustique in October 1982. Andrew Morton wrote in his 2018 book ‘Meghan: The Hollywood Princess’ that the pair stayed at a property belonging to the Queen’s sister Princess Margaret. He added: “[Prince Andrew] and his American girlfriend Kathleen “Koo” Stark, the daughter of Hollywood producer Wilbur Stark had, according to first reports, flown under the assumed name Mr and Mrs Cambridge.”

It is unknown why this name was chosen by the Duke of York, but the name Cambridge is now used by Prince William, Kate and their children as their surname on documents.

According to Mr Morton, the romance between Prince Andrew and Ms Stark continued long after their holiday and she even met the Queen and Princess Diana.

Princess Diana reportedly considered them a “perfect match”.

She told Mr Morton: “Sweet Koo adored him. She was terribly good to have around.
