Juncker mocks Britain after Theresa May SNUB – 'Easiest EU summit I've been to'

Jean-Claude Juncker claimed the latest EU Summit in Sibiu, Romania, was one of the "easiest" meetings of European Union leaders he had attended in what appears to be a dig at the British Government. Theresa May was not invited to attend the summit despite the United Kingdom set to remain a member state of the EU after the Prime Minister agreed to a new extension of the Brexit deadline until October. Addressing the press on Thursday, Mr Juncher said: "In September 2017, in my State of the Union speech, I suggested to Donald we should meet as European Council in Sibiu, we thought for the first meeting after Brexit but it’s almost the same, really.

"Today’s European Council was one of the easiest that I have ever attended.

"First, because of the Romanian presidency and in particular President Klaus Iohannis, who prepared this council in the best possible way. Secondly, because there is no urgent decision to take."

The apparent dig followed the Eurocrat's mockingly admitting to "missing" Theresa May as he arrived at the meeting in Sibiu.

Despite leaders, officials and diplomats looking forward to avoiding Brexit, Britain’s divorce still cast a shadow over the summit, as Brexit Secretary Stephen Barclay travelled to Romania to present his vision for the future relationship between Britain and the EU.
