Prime Minister Theresa May has faced calls from within her own party to set her date of departure, after promising her own MPs that she will step down before the next stages of Brexit. The Conservative Party’s influential 1922 Committee has demanded the Prime Minister outline a roadmap to when she should step down as leader, with her Brexit withdrawal agreement already being rejected three times. BBC’s Political Editor Laura Kuenssberg has warned time may soon be up for the Prime Minister as leader, claiming: “the end may be nigh”.

She told BBC’s Brexitcast: “I think we should draw the fact that the end may well be nigh, genuinely.

“We are in an extraordinary set of affairs, well it is an extraordinary state of affairs where it is being so openly discussed, even by serving cabinet ministers.

“That is something that is quite staggering.

“The European elections are, of course, the next flashpoint, and what pretty much every Tory MP will almost inevitably talk about, within about the first 30-seconds of a conversation when you bump into them in the House of Commons or on the phone, is it’s not ‘if’, it’s all about ‘when’.

“It’s ‘when do you think it is going to happen? Could it be after the Peterborough by-election? Could it be after the European elections?’”
