During the 2016 EU membership referendum the ‘Leave’ campaign put boosting NHS funding as one of their top priorities. Mr Johnson is currently the bookies favourite to replace Theresa May as Prime Minister when she steps down. The Prime Minister has vowed to leave her post before the ‘next stage’ of the Brexit process, but has refused to outline a date.
Mr Johnson vowed extra funding for the NHS during a piece praising the Government’s healthcare record in The Daily Telegraph.
He asserted: “It is excellent that we have £20billion going in now, thanks to this Government, the biggest ever transfusion.
“Then I might mention the very substantial net dividend that will be available, every week, when we stop paying into EU budgets.
“All the more reason to get Brexit done and get it done well.”
