The tiara was made by Cartier in 1936 and gifted to the Queen Mother by King George VI as an anniversary present, according to The Court Jeweller. The diamond and platinum tiara was then given to the Queen on her 18th birthday and has been worn by the Queen Mother, Princess Margaret, the Princess Royal and Kate Middleton.
