#GameOfThrones: Are Jaime and Cersei Lannister REALLY dead?! Did they die?

Cersei Lannister (played by Lena Headey) and her brother-turned-lover Jaime Lannister (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) appear to have finally died in Game of Thrones. Episode five of the final HBO series, titled The Bells, saw Cersei and Jaime trapped under the Red Keep following the destruction of the city by Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) and her dragon, Drogon. However, many GOT viewers have been left wondering if Cersei and Jaime are really dead.

WARNING: This article contains spoilers from Game of Thrones season 8.

Cersei and Jaime did die underneath the Red Keep in season eight, episode five.

Jaime was seen leading Cersei below the Red Keep to try and escape from Daenerys, but the building collapsed around them, crushing them underneath.

Game of Thrones creators David Benioff and DB Weiss confirmed the pair’s death to HBO’s Inside the Episode.

Benioff said: “There’s a scene several years ago where Jaime and Bronn (Jerome Flynn) are talking about how they want to go.

“Jaime says he wants to die in the arms of the woman he loves and this is it.”

Weiss added to his co-writer’s point in the interview, saying: “I think he knows that they belong together, that they came into this world together, and they need to go out of this world together.”

Benioff also explained what Jaime must be thinking in his final moments in Game of Thrones.

The HBO series writer said: “Once he goes through the various exits and they’re all clogged up with rubble and there’s no way out and he knows there’s no way out, he’s just trying to calm down the woman he loves because he knows this is it.”
