Ten passengers were pulled from the wreckage of the planes. Mischa Chernick, of PeaceHealth Ketchikan Medical Center, confirmed ten patients had been admitted to the hospital. She added: "We have one in critical condition, three in serious condition, and six in fair condition." One of the aircraft was carrying 11 people while the other had five passengers according to local authorities. US Coast Guard officials could not confirm if the planes had collided or if they crashed separately. Clint Johnson, chief of the National Transportation Safety Board in Alaska confirmed that he could only provide "sketchy details" but that the agency is sending a team to investigate the crash sites. The crash site is near to a popular tourist lodge that runs excursions to the nearby Misty Fjords National Monument. In 2015 another floatplane crashed into a mountain in the northeast of Ketchikan.
