Meghan Markle wed Prince Harry back in May last year, at St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle. Months later, Princess Eugenie married Jack Brooksbank at the same venue. Saturday will see fellow royal Lady Gabriella Windsor and her fiancée Thomas Kingston also exchange vows. The daughter of Prince and Princess Michael of Kent, Lady Gabriella is 52nd in the line of succession to the British throne. While the Queen and other royal are expected to attend the ceremony, the upcoming nuptials will differ from last year’s royal weddings, with the event not expected to be televised.

As the bride and groom prepare for married life, it’s time to take a look back at last year’s royal weddings.

What did the body language of Meghan Markle, now the Duchess of Sussex, and Princess Eugenie reveal, as they wed their other halves?

Body language expert Judi James as analysed photos from before and after the services, exclusively for Express.co.uk.

“While both women looked elegant and oozed confidence on their wedding days their body language signals were subtly different,” she said.

According to Judi, Princess Eugenie opted for a “more traditional” type of royal bride.

“Eugenie adopted the non-verbal cues of a more traditional royal princess bride on a bit of a pedestal, who may also have been focused on subtly boosting and supporting her very nervous-looking husband while performing the ‘Swan in the lake’ trick of swimming elegantly through her wedding while her feet were paddling away furiously underneath the water line,” she said.

Princess Eugenie, now 29, wore a gown designed by Peter Pilotto and Christopher De Vos.

The body language expert suggested that the style of gown also affected her movements.

“Eugenie’s more traditional, structured dress with its full skirt and accentuated waist restricted more spontaneous movement and made Eugenie the centre of visual and spatial attention,” she said.

“It kept her husband Jack at more of an arm’s length so that – like Charles and Diana and Andrew with Fergie – the groom adopted the role of ‘presenting’ his bride to the public from a slightly larger distance.”

For the Duchess of Sussex’s wedding, the 37-year-old wore a more modern style of gown, which, according to Judi, allowed for more “fluid” moves.

Meghan’s dress was by Clare Waight Keller, the artistic director of the fashion house Givenchy.

“Meghan’s very modern, unstructured sheath dress made her movements more fluid and created more accessibility,” she said.
