BBC drama Summer of Rockets gets underway tonight (May 22) set in 1950’s England in the midst of Cold War tensions with Russia. With a cast boasting the likes of Line of Duty star Keeley Hawes and Lost in Space actor Toby Stephens, Summer of Rockets is bound to get audiences talking. Another thing about the new drama fans will undoubtedly be blown away by is the setting and filming locations where Summer of Rockets was recorded. So where was Summer of Rockets filmed?

Where is Summer of Rockets on BBC filmed?

Summer of Rockets is filmed in a number of different locations in the UK but predominantly in London and Oxford.

The BBC confirmed filming had begun on Summer of Rockets in the two cities in May 2018.

Filming also took place on location outside Buckingham Palace in the capital.

One Summer of Rockets scene is set at the well-known landmark and executive producer Helen Flint described to Radio Times the experience of actually filming there.

Flint said: “You inevitably know when you get a Stephen [Poliakoff] script that you’re going to be inside a house, but you’re also going to be outside of Buckingham Palace at four o’clock in the morning,”

She continued: “With all those girls getting ready and not being able to get them on the set until seven o’clock in the morning, and then all the tourists coming at 10 o’clock in the morning on a Sunday. It was terrifying…”

Besides London and Oxford, filming for Summer of Rockets also took place in the UK town of Stevenage.
