The Prime Minister offered the concession in a bid to get Labour Party backing for her Brexit. However it promoted outrage within the Cabinet, with Commons Leader Mrs Leadsom resigning. Other Ministers are said to have considered offering their resignations.
According to The Daily Telegraph the Prime Minister wanted to legislate for a Parliamentary vote on holding another Brexit referendum.
The paper claims the clause states: “That this House agrees there should be another referendum before the withdrawal bill is ratified.”
The UK takes part in European Parliament elections later today.
Polls suggest the Brexit Party, led to Nigel Farage, is likely to win.
