Jane Hill has returned to BBC news after secret cancer battle

Jane Hill, 49, was back on BBC One lunchtime news yesterday for the first time since November.

Taking to Twitter, the newsreader explained the reason for her absence was to take time off to have breast cancer treatment.

Before the lunchtime news, she wrote on Twitter: “Big day today. On air for the first time since November.

“Still... 6 months out of the newsroom... that's been plenty of time to sort #Brexit, right...? See you for @bbcnews at One.”

Jane then joked her pass didn’t work after she tried to get into the building.

She said: “Oh, and in true #W1A style, my pass had been cancelled and I couldn't get into the building. #welcomeback.”

After her return to work, Jane admitted she was “overwhelmed” with the positive comments she had received.

“Overwhelmed by so many lovely back-to-work messages,” she wrote on Twitter.

“I just want to say that my return wouldn't have been possible without our NHS.”

Thanking the NHS, she continued: “Sending love & thanks to the numerous @NHSuk staff who spotted my breast cancer, treated it, and continue to look after me. Thank you all.”
