Emmerdale actress Jane Cox, 67, has quit the soap after portraying Lisa Dingle for 23 years, but her exit scenes are yet to be aired. Before getting her big break on the show in 1996, Jane starred as cleaner Mrs Shaw on Coronation Street and also appeared as JJ in children’s TV show Allsorts between 1991 and 1995. But, when acting work dried up, the actress admitted she had to work other jobs to bring in more income. Her other jobs included working in care homes and stitching juggling balls.

Spilling all, she told The Mirror: “People do anything to try to make ends meet.
“I know from when I’ve been out of work how difficult things can be.
“I was sewing the final stitches in circus juggling balls to earn a few pounds extra on my dole money because I couldn’t afford childcare at the time.”
“One time I worked as an auxiliary in an old people’s home,” she added.
Speaking further of the hard times, she added: “I remember scrambling around the back of the sofa trying to find a few quid to buy either a glass of wine or a few tins of baked beans.
