Even destinations far-flung from the UK, such as Australia and Bali, which often require stop-overs can be gained with hundreds of pounds discount. He has previously recommended “tracking” routes on SkyScanner while suggesting a “sweet spot” for looking between six to 12 weeks prior to travel.

Writing on his blog, he told how booking last minute was, for some part, a game of chance, anticipating whether a flight would be popular or not.

He wrote: “Targets are constant, so if a flight hits a certain date and is undersold, prices are likely to drop.

“If at this date ticket sales are on target or more than expected, then prices will rise.”

Talking of specific destinations, he pinpointed particular time schedules for these.

For short haul destinations, such as flying from the UK to Ireland and Europe, Jack told how this was a “predictable” period for fares.

He posted on his blog: “It’s the earlier the better.

“The best flight prices are available as soon as flights go on sale, so as far in advance as possible will yield the cheapest seats.

“We have found that for peak periods you want to book at least eight months in advance.”
