The Queen told First Lady Melania it was “nice to see you again” as she greeted her on the steps of Buckingham Palace as she joined her husband on his first state visit. A welcoming Prince Charles and Camilla all were on hand to greet Mr Trump and First Lady Melania Trump when their US Marine Corps helicopter touched down in the palace gardens.

Prince Charles greeted the US leader like an old friend asking: “Are you doing well, Donald?”.

The prince and president shook hands for around 10 seconds as they exchanged words, and as their wives said hello, Charles guided Mr Trump with a hand on his back towards the West Terrace where the Queen was waiting and the pair shared a joke as they went.

And Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, was equally as pleasant as she told the American couple “Nice to meet you,” according to lip reader Tina Lannin, of 121 Captions.
