#GameofThrones viewers were NEVER going to see Jon Snow as king - here’s why

Game of Thrones fans have been hoping Jon Snow (played by Kit Harington) would be the best bet for taking the Iron Throne in the final episode of season eight.

But they were in for a shock as the last moments of the finale saw Jon being sent back to the Night’s Watch after killing Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke).

Season seven saw Jon’s secret heritage being discovered by both the characters and viewers - Jon is a Targaryen.

However it has now been revealed he was never going to be a king, as he doesn’t possess the stand-out traits of those who have ruled before him.

The Targaryen bloodline is extremely distinct - and even more so in the books.

Aside from the well-known blonde hair, which is sometimes mistaken for silver, Targaryens also possess purples eyes - a trait not brought over to the TV show.

Obviously, Jon neither has blonde hair nor purple eyes, as his Stark genes have dominated the Targaryen features.

But apparently, according to Redditors, this is exactly the reason Jon was destined to never take the throne in the finale.

Many members of the Targaryen lineage have somehow narrowly escaped sitting on the Iron Throne, and they have all differed from the traditional Targaryen look.
