Passengers will no longer have to trek to a bar or restaurant when they feel peckish. Carnival’s HUB mobile app means pizza and beer is available to holidaymakers at the literal touch of a button. The cruise line rolled out the pizza ordering function back in February but beer and soft drinks are now available too. According to Carnival: “After choosing a hand-tossed pizza with their preferred toppings, guests will be asked whether they would like a beer, soda or water to accompany their meal. “To place an order, guests simply tap on the ship’s map to mark their location, take a selfie to identify themselves and select their desired order.” Drink options on the app include Peroni, Miller Lite and Blue Moon while soft drinks include Coke, Coke Zero, Diet Coke, Diet Sprite and bottled water. Cooked-to-order pizzas including margherita, funghi, prosciutto, pepperoni and quattro formaggi. These are delivered hot to the guest’s location on board for a cost of $5 per pizza and automatically charged to guests’ Sail & Sign shipboard accounts. The app also allows guests to track daily happenings on board, view entertainment offerings, chat with family and friends and book shore excursions. It also means passengers can conveniently purchase a wide variety of items and experiences before departure, including shore excursions, spa treatments, speciality dining reservations, Wi-Fi packages and Fun Shop orders for stateroom delivery. Findings from Admiral Travel Insurance showed more than three quarters (77 per cent) of holidaymakers think they eat more on holiday. A fifth (17 per cent) said they gain an extra two to three lbs, while around one in seven (14 per cent) gained around four to five lbs. Collectively, that is more than eight million stone. Additionally, more than two-thirds of travellers said food and drink remain the most important factor when picking a cruise holiday, with this form of vacation being something that one in eight plan to do in the next 12 months.
