Anne Hegerty, 60, took to the micro-blogging site to respond to a Twitter user who admitted they were pleased to welcome Donald Trump, 72, who they dubbed as an “important ally” for the UK. The Chase star took the opportunity to reply to the post and admitted she “loved Americans” but claimed the President “has the shakiest concept of decency”. The person in question initially retweeted a message from another user ,which stated: “God this visit. So humiliating. It’s elevated him and reduced us in many ways. Supplicant, begging and desperate. Now we’re willing to do anything, sacrifice our hard won values for this man to be our overlord.” To which they replied: “Most normal people are not remotely interested in it. Insofar as I do care, I am pleased to see the warmest welcome given to the President of the USA whoever holds that office, especially on the 75th anniversary of D-Day. America is an important ally. This is silly histrionics.”

Anne responded to the latter tweet and wrote: “I love America and Americans. I do not consider that it needs to be made great 'again’

“I hope we will continue to have close relations with it. But Trump is a moron with only the shakiest concept of decency.”

It was not long before another Twitter user replied to The Governess’ post, saying: “It’s called being respectful and well mannered to a nation that has helped us win wars Anne. Thought you’d have known better @POTUS.”
