Will state pension age rise again? A look at the planned changes

The state pension age reached gender parity as of November 2018. Previously, the state pension age had been 60 for women, while it stood at 65 for men. A series of gradual changes meant that it became the same for either sex last year. Now, the state pension age is rising across the board.

The UK state pension age is rising

As of October 2020, state pension age for men and women is set to reach 66.

Between 2026 and 2028, the age is due to be raised again, from 66 to 67.

The state pension age will be kept under review, with life expectancy being cited as a reason for the changes.

In order to work out one’s state pension age, some people may check by using the government calculator.

By entering their sex and date of birth, a person can check their state pensionn age.

Not only will they be told the age in which they were or will be able to claim the state pension, but the online tool will also display the date on which it was or will be reached.

This digital tool will also tell users when they would reach Pension Credit qualifying age.
