The Chaser, 60, has been on the show since 2010, joining the line-up a year after it first aired ITV. Revealing how she had lived in poverty before landing the job, Anne Hegerty spoke about her love of fame. Having started her journey to quiz success when she appeared on Mastermind in 1987, The Chase star admitted: “My filthy little secret is that I’ve always wanted to be famous and I don’t get nervous being on TV. I didn’t do terribly well on the show but I joined the Mastermind Club,” she told The Sun on Sunday.
“We’d meet every month. It was dull and so full of older blokes that somebody suggested inviting some Mensa friends to boost numbers,” she recalled.
“Any group that can be livened up by Mensa must be pretty much dead!”
It was through the Mastermind club that Anne discovered the Grand Prix quiz circuit.
Telling the publication how she had been struggling financially at the time, the quizzer said she was “skint” and needed to claim benefits.
It was in 2009 when her luck changed after she met The Chase favourite Mark Labbett, 53, at a Grand Prix World Championships.
