Meghan Markle was believed to have skipped official events during US President Donald Trump's visit to the UK because her maternity leave has yet to conclude. But the Duchess of Sussex on Saturday joined senior members of the Royal Family in London to celebrate the Queen's official birthday at Trooping the Colour. Commentator Robert Hardman claimed the decision to skip events with Mr Trump was taken to ensure Meghan did not "offend people" and adhered to royal rules.
Mr Hardman told Sky News: "The problem with anything royal is you set a precedent.
"If you suddenly come out of maternity leave to attend a dinner for the President of the United States and this charity or another event may be offended you are not there.
"There’s a fairly straightforward rule – family events are one thing, official engagements are another."
Meghan Markle expressed criticism of Mr Trump during the 2016 presidential campaign, claiming she would "move to Canada" in the event of a Trump victory at the polls.
