Iain Duncan Smith: Tory MP pledges support for one candidate (Image: GETTY)
Writing in The Daily Telegraph, Mr Iain Duncan Smith has claimed that the party must address the issue of Brexit or it could lead to “dire” consequences for the party. Following that warning, the Tory MP revealed that he will be supporting Boris Johnson in the race to become the next leader of the party. He added: “We have to deal with the biggest issue of all, Brexit.
“We are in the last chance saloon of politics.
“By failing to leave the EU on March 29 as promised, we broke trust with the British people and history shows us that the consequences for political parties when that happens are dire.”
Mr Duncan Smith’s comments come as the list of candidates was reduced to 10 MPs as Sam Gyimah withdrew from the competition after insisting that there had not been enough time to gain support.
As it stands, Mr Johnson is considered as the leading candidate to become the next leader of the party.
