‘It’s cowardly’ #GMB Piers Morgan clashes with Stanley Johnson in #BBC TV ...

There has been much debate over the issues with many slamming the BBC’s decision to reinstate a TV licence fee for the elderly, who previously received the privilege for free.

The BBC have claimed Pension Credit instead is “the fairest and best outcome”, and around 3.7 million pensioners are expected to lose out on the entitlement when the change comes into force in June 2020.

The decision comes four years after the government announced the BBC would take over the responsibility for providing free licences for over-75s by 2020 as part of the licence fee settlement.

On today's Good Morning Britain the debate continued, and while most of the ITV programme's guests were fiercely against the decision to make over-75s pay the licence fee, former politician Stanley was concerned with the language used to describe the British Broadcasting Corporation.

Getting angry over the refusal to send a BBC spokesperson to debate the issue on the ITV news programme, Piers Morgan, 53, said: “Their salaries are paid by us, I find it cowardly that they’re not here.”

“Yes a no-show on this one just shows what they think of us as well,” former SAS soldier Phil Campion said.

“They’ve absolutely tipped us upside down, it is a mickey-take,” he continued. “There must come a point in a person’s life when they’ve served their country that people go, ‘I tell you what, we’ll let you have a little bit back.'

“Totally agree. Stanley?” Piers offered.

“Of course I agree with what Phil is saying about the heroism of people who have served their country,” Stanley went on. “But I don’t think you should use words like cowardly like this."

“It is cowardly!” Piers fired back.
