'We forced Theresa May out!' MEP John Longworth hails 'major Brexit Party ...

Brexit Party MEP John Longworth has claimed his party were the reason Prime Minister Theresa May was forced to step down from her role as Conservative leader. Mrs May had her Brexit withdrawal agreement rejected in the Commons three times and after a speech which opened the door to a second Brexit referendum, the Prime Minister faced huge criticism from her own party, eventually forcing her to step down. With the Conservative Party in the midst of a leadership contest, Brexit Party MEP John Longworth, elected in last month’s European elections, has praised the party for “influencing” the political sphere.

He told Express.co.uk: “We have influenced the Government already, but for the creation of the Brexit Party, the Prime Minister would not have resigned.

“So, we have already had a major influence on British politics, because we are changing the Prime Minister, that is pretty significant, isn’t it?”

He added: “Secondly, whatever person becomes the head of the Conservative Party, and the new Prime Minister, is going to have to pay attention to the Brexit Party and the policies that we are pushing forward because we are pushing into third and fourth place.

“The existing parties, the major parties in the UK, Labour and Conservative, they are running scared, and it is the only thing that has had any influence on them directly.

“Members of Parliament, Parliament against the people, those members of Parliament who are Remainers, almost all of them are in fear of their jobs.

“It is the only thing that seems to concentrate their minds. Get hold of their jobs, and suddenly they start to listen. So, I think we are having a major influence.”

Commenting on who he would like to become the next Conservative leader, Mr Longworth quickly said: “I don’t care”.

He added: “They need to get us out of the European Union on October 31, with or without a deal.

“That deal needs to create a clean break Brexit for the UK and they need to adopt
