Revealed: How Prince William learned from Charles' past mistakes

Kate, Duchess of Cambridge and Prince William are now the proud parents of Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. Their relationship began in 2001 and, before their 2011 royal wedding, the pair spent time living together in Anglesey during William’s RAF training. The way William and Kate slowly and carefully developed their royal romance came in sharp contrast to how William’s mother Princess Diana had been introduced to royal life, and William himself wanted to learn from those past mistakes, according to a royal biographer.

Andrew Morton, in his 2011 book “William and Catherine”, delves into the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s relationship behind the scenes.

During their 2010 engagement interview, Prince William said: “I wanted to give her a chance to see in and back out if she needed to before it all got too much.

“I’m trying to learn from the past.

“I just wanted to give her the best chance to settle in and to see what happens on the other side.”

Mr Morton continues: “In consequence, when William and Kate greeted the world together, they seemed more like a couple who had been married for years. 

“They appeared comfortable with each other, knowing all each other’s jokes and stories and which side of the bed each sleeps on.”

He adds: “It had been so different when Diana became engaged.

“She had moved away from her family and friends to live with the Queen Mother at Clarence House
