#Outlander Claire Fraser star reveals what makes her so special

In previous Outlander seasons Claire and husband Jamie (played by Sam Heughan) have appeared as the perfect couple and fans have fallen in love with them.

The pair’s relationship has developed over time as they have grown older and moved from Scotland to the modern world in America.

No journey has been more transformative than Claire’s in the time-travelling Starz drama and her development is set to continue into season five.

Her role as a grandmother will test her further and the transformation of Claire is the aspect of the role that Caitriona loves most.

At Starz’s FYC event at Century city in Los Angeles, she spoke on a panel about season four and her character and Parade.com was there to hear her responses.

Asked what it is like to go from playing a modern woman in the 20th century to playing her in an ever where “women have no agency”, she said: “That has been the great thing of playing this character.

“We’ve taken her as a young woman – she was definitely in her late 20s – and her husband was the person she deferred to in so many ways. Claire has grown so much through this.

“Claire is now in her mid-50s. It has been incredible to walk that life with this character and watch her grow. Claire was a very hot-headed and quick-tempered person.

“Her need for justice and her need to be able to say something in the moment hasn’t changed but what has been interesting is to watch her become wiser and not as tempestuous and to learn a little calm.”
