The cathedral and the square in front of it are closed to the public

Worshippers in Paris wore hard hats for the small celebration in one of the cathedral's side chapels which was broadcast live on Catholic television channel KTO. The mass, marking the annual anniversary of the consecration of the cathedral's altar, came exactly two months after the fire destroyed its spire and the oak-framed lead roof. Attendance was limited to 30 people - half of them clergy - in the Chapel of the Virgin on the east side of the cathedral behind the choir which has been confirmed as safe.
