Chris, 44, is the only presenter to remain from the previous series of Top Gear earlier this year after actor Matt LeBlanc, 51, and Rory Reid 39, stood down from hosting duties.

It was announced last September Take Me Out host Paddy, 45, and former England cricketer Freddie, 41, would be joining Chris to front the popular BBC programme.

Top Gear fans will know although the presenters give their expertise on the motors they’re driving, they also have some fun on set as the hosts get competitive.

Speaking of Paddy and Freddie joining the show and the havoc the trio get up to during filming, Chris said: “A bit of rough and tumble is great.”

We just start fighting each other

Ahead of the show’s return, Chris told press, including Express.co.uk the antics between presenters happen because there is no script to follow, giving them free reign of what to do.

“I think Top Gear is about mucking in and what’s really, really true of the show now, and we can’t stress this enough, is that the producers, they give us a situation or an environment and they just roll the cameras and what happens, happens and we’re quite idiotic when it comes to the physical stuff,” he commented.

Speaking of Paddy’s reaction to him and Freddie messing around, Chris quipped: “Paddy’s more grown up. Paddy basically sits there and looks at where it’s all going and thinks ‘Oh my god. It’s all falling out,’ and we just start fighting each other.

“It’s really good fun. I don’t mind it at all. I think Top Gear, it’s about people knocking about,” Chris joked.

Freddie added Paddy does get in on the mischief, explaining:
