Between 2008-2010, Suzanne Collins released her dystopian Hunger Games trilogy, set in a world where the young are forced to kill each other for entertainment. The best-selling young adult books were swiftly adapted into four movies starring Jennifer Lawrence between 2012-2015. And now the author has announced today with Scholastic that she’s penning a prequel book. The untitled novel is set in Panem 64 years before the events of The Hunger Games trilogy.
According to Associated Press, Collin said: “With this book, I wanted to explore the state of nature, who we are, and what we perceive is required for our survival.
“The reconstruction period 10 years after the war, commonly referred to as the Dark Days — as the country of Panem struggles back to its feet — provides fertile ground for characters to grapple with these questions and thereby define their views of humanity.”
With such a time jump backwards, Katniss Everdeen will not feature in the novel as she obviously hadn’t been born yet.
