Labour Brexiteer John Mann argued it would prove “catastrophic” for the future of the Labour party if they ignored the majority vote to leave the EU. He added it would be particularly damaging to Labour MPs from the north and the Midlands where he claimed a “significant” amount of Leave votes came from. Although the Labour party has not officially announced that it would be backing Remain, deputy leader Tom Watson insisted "Britains future didn't have to mean Brexit". Mr Mann told the BBC: “Those voters who under our democracy used their vote.
“The majority won and the majority voted to leave.
“A large majority of Labour voters in the north, this is going to lose Labour the next general election by a significant amount.
‘I can tell you this as well, some MPs who have been speaking this morning and I have seen and spoken to in private.
“What they have said is they have never ever rebelled, are up in arms about this.
“Because they realise the reality on the ground.
