The move comes amid a stalemate between Mr Maduro and National Assembly leader Juan Guaido, who labels himself the interim president of Venezuela. With a visit from the UN high commissioner for human rights Michelle Bachelet looming, the opposition have accused Mr Maduro of currying favour with the UN at a convenient time. The National Assembly also lashed out at the Venezuelan President as they accused him of violating human rights all over the country.
They added: “The parliamentarian Gilber Caro should never have been jailed.
“Today he comes out from behind bars, but just like all Venezuelans, he still is not free.”
Mr Maduro was accused of violating Mr Caro’s parliamentary immunity for the third time in as many years.
In 2017, the lawmaker was accused of possessing weapons and US dollars and was jailed for 43 days.
