#GameOfThrones' Brienne of Tarth star reveals a subtle detail you missed

Game of Thrones brought Brienne of Tarth (played by Gwendoline Christie) fans to their knees this year, as she had an incredible journey in the final few episodes of the show.

Brienne not only got together with Jaime Lannister (Nikolaj Coster Waldau) earlier in the show, but she was also knighted by him in a moving scene.

This was a big deal, as it seemed she was the first female Ser of the Seven Kingdoms - making her extremely proud.

However Brienne star Gwendoline has now revealed this scene in particular contained a detail from the books which not many people have picked up on.

Speaking to Gold Derby in a video chat on YouTube, Gwendoline spoke about her character in the books.

She said: “Also, in the books, it’s said how Brienne doesn’t smile - so I really took that on board.

“I really took that on board, and I was thinking with each season - it was always in my mind: When will she smile? When would it be appropriate for her to smile?”

She added: “I didn’t want to throw it away, and I didn’t want to waste it!”

Despite Brienne’s knighting, Gwendoline explained she didn’t think smiling was in the script.
