The bidding site, eBay, is a popular place for sellers to list “rare” coins, and many of these are uploaded for much more than face value. While a lot of the coins on the site go unnoticed, one fifty pence piece has gathered the interest of a number of bidder. A “rare” Beatrix Potter Peter Rabbit coin has recently sold for a whopping £512 after getting 22 bids. The coin was described as being in “excellent mint condition” which may have caused the huge selling price.

Uploading a large selection of photos of the coin, the eBay user, “vykhuu30” gave the coin the modest starting price of just 99 pence.
They said: “This Silver Proof Coin in a Plastic Capsule Unopened and Surrounded by a Clear Magnetic Perspex Case Very Rare and Collectable. Happy Bidding.”
The product then received 22 bids after sparking the interest of a number of different eBay users.
On top of forking out for the eye-watering selling price, the winning bidder needed to pay an additional £8.99 to get the coin delivered by express delivery.
