However, in a bittersweet announcement, Netflix confirmed it would be the last season ever, although most fans and cast believed the series had at least two more seasons in it.

Now, showrunner Ildy Modrovich has taken to Twitter to respond to fans answering for her opinion.

She said: “Sorry I’ve been quiet on this issue. Truth is, it’s cuz I’m torn. So much of me could do #Lucifer forever. But I’m also immensely grateful YOU & @netflix gave us the chance to continue our story together.

“And I know S5 is going to be a love letter to our #Lucifans so…”

She summed up what a lot of fans are feeling about the announcement, with one saying: “I think most of us are feeling the same way. We have complete faith that everybody making the show will do justice to Lucifer, but also we feel there may be a need for a Season 6.
