World War 3: Iran attacks US (Image: GETTY) Following the attack on an oil tanker last week, the secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council accused the US of being a "savage monster” on Tuesday. In response to last week’s attack, the US has sent an additional 1,000 troops to the region as acting US Defence Secretary, Patrick Shanahan accused the Islamic Republic of being behind the attack. Although Iran has denied the allegations, the state has called on countries around the world to unite against the US and “break up” its dominance on the financial system. The treaty was intended to limit the proliferation of nuclear weapons by both states but was cancelled after accusations from both countries of non-compliance. Following that announcement, Iran’s president Hassan Rouhani said his country did not seek to wage war with any nation and had remained "loyal" to its international obligations. Mr Cotton said: “These unprovoked attacks on commercial shipping warrant a retaliatory military strike. “We can make a military response in a time and a manner of our choosing," the senator insisted.” His statements follow as fellow Republic Congressman, Adam Kinzinger, boasted of the US’ ability to defeat Iran.
