Lord Heseltine attacks Tory leadership candidates after 'nonsensical' BBC debate

The former deputy Prime Minister told Emily Maitlis on BBC Newsnight he is “disenfranchised” following the debate. He hit out at the five remaining candidates for not making sense or having any new policies. Mr Heseltine went on to claim they risk the savings of the British people if they fail.

Lord Heseltine said: “It was a deeply depressing occasion for me because I’m disenfranchised.

“They’re all Brexiteers and there are large parts of my party that will vote for a Brexiteer.

“It was a masterclass in avoiding answers to questions.

“There was not a single new policy idea and there were a lot of assertions which make no sense.
