British tourists were warned the cost of holidays is on track to increase to help the Government address the risks climate change poses. Independent peer Bryony Worthington has suggested "the era of cheap flights is over" as holidaymakers have to prepare to pay for "the real cost" of travel in the face of changes in the global weather. Speaking to Channel 4 news, Baroness Worthing said: "This is going to be an issue that runs and runs because it’s so close to such a large group of people you have to think this is going to be a totemic fight.

"There is a bigger fight we need to fight, which is about getting the whole sector to take this issue seriously.

"Cheap flights, that era is over. We have to start paying for the real cost of those flights."

Theresa May announced last week plans to have the UK become the first G7 member to fully commit to cutting greenhouse gas emissions to almost zero by 2050.

For a ‘net zero’ carbon footprint, a country must be able to balance its carbon emissions with carbon removal strategies like renewable energy.
