The Liberal Prime Minister – who was elected on a landslide in 2015 – has lost his appeal to many voters across the political spectrum ahead of this year’s election. After taking the lead in February, the Conservative Party have maintained their prominence over Justin Trudeau and are set to take back Parliament in October. His meeting with Donald Trump on Thursday is set to be a huge test for Mr Trudeau, who will need to strike the right tone when welcoming the US President.

A recent poll conducted by Ipsos shows that Conservative leader Andrew Scheer would get 37 percent of the popular vote, compared to just 31 percent for Mr Trudeau.

The Conservatives currently lead in Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Maritimes – and tie the Liberals in Ontario following Conservative Doug Ford’s surprising win last year.

Sean Simpson, vice president of Ipsos Public Affairs, said of the Liberals: “They’ve run out of time to do anything new, and where they find themselves is what you see in our new poll which is trailing the Tories quite considerably, which is becoming a trend.”
