Prince William and Kate Middleton are now the proud parents of Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, and the happy family were seen together at this month’s Trooping the Colour. The royal pair met at the University of St Andrews in 2001, ten years before their royal wedding in 2011. Although the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are now taking on more and more senior royal roles in support of the Queen, William has not always been so comfortable with royal life, according to a biographer.
Andrew Morton in his 2011 book “William and Catherine” writes about the prince’s university days and how the limitation of royal life frustrated him when he auditioned for a student playing his first term.
Mr Morton writes: “Although successful in the audition he was not given the role, the producer telling him that he was worried that the media, rather than townsfolk and fellow students, would dominate the audience in the small Byre Theatre during the four-night run.”
He continues: “The rejection symbolised for William the frustrations of fitting in to university life.
“However hard he tried, he could not just be an ordinary student.”

He also explains that the audition was where William first met Carley Massy-Birch, his first university girlfriend who Kate Middleton “could not stand”, according to royal expert Katie Nicholl.
Mr Morton goes on to describe how William’s frustrations contributed to his indecision about whether or not to continue at university.
He writes: “His sense of exclusion and his weariness of being treated like a specimen on a petri dish – scrutinised, prodded and poked by all and sundry, gave him second thoughts about continuing at university.”
University friend of the prince Michael Choong told the author: “He was sick of people he didn’t know following him around.
“He was ready to call it a day.”
