Homes were left without power and roads flooded across the south-east on Tuesday night, with Lenham in Kent getting more than one and a half inches of rain in an hour. Lightning also lit up the sky from Brighton to Birmingham, allowing photographers to capture some spectacular shots. Eastbourne in East Sussex was said to have been hit by 1,000 lightning strikes in just an hour on Tuesday night.
