The average costs of staying there come up at £56.25 per person per night, narrowly pipping Golden Sands in Bulgaria, at £60.29 per person per night, to the top spot.

Other locations in the top five include the Costa Brava, in Spain, at £61.30 per person per night, Sidari in Corfu, Greece at £61.94 per person per night and the Neapolitan Riviera, in Italy, at £63.82 per person per night.

The outcomes came after specific locations were analysed for the median seven night package holiday price during the school holidays.

The survey from the holiday comparison site threw up a curveball through, as some shorter haul packages came up more expensive than long haul.
